The traditional East Asian calendars divide a year into 24 solar terms, Liqiu is the 13th solar term. It more often refers in particular to the day when the Sun is exactly at the celestial longitude of 135°. In the Gregorian calendar, it usually begins around August 7 and ends around August 23. Liqiu signifies the beginning of autumn in East Asian cultures.

Two weeks ago I attended the Chinese Corner offered by the school on Saturday morning to study language in Shanghai and I have to say - it was GREAT! I had more opportunity to just chat and practice my ( admittedly limited! ) Chinese than I have had in a whole year here in Shanghai. It was a chance to actually USE all that passive vocabulary , hear native speakers speaking perfect Mandarin , do some role plays and just generally build up my confidence.
